Wick event invites public to help shape Scotland’s land future
An event in Wick aims to give more people the chance to have their say on how land should be managed.
The Scottish Land Commission is inviting people in Caithness to take part in the free event, exploring how land can be used to shape the future of the local community as part of wider efforts to build a fairer, greener Scotland.
The event, part of the Commission’s ScotLand Futures initiative, will take place at the Norseman Hotel, Wick, at 7pm on Thursday, September 4.
It’s one of several public meetings being held across the country this autumn – giving people the chance to hear more about the early findings from the ScotLand Futures survey, and to share their own experiences, challenges and priorities when it comes to how land is owned, used and managed in their area.
The commission is particularly keen to hear from residents, community groups, landowners, businesses and anyone with an interest in how land decisions affect life in the far north of Scotland.
Michael Russell, chairman of the Scottish Land Commission, said: “Land is central to how we live but it can often feel like these decisions happen at a distance from local communities.
“This event in Wick is a chance to bring the conversation closer to home. We are here to listen to local experiences and make sure the future of land reform in Scotland reflects the reality on the ground.”
Light refreshments will be provided alongside a chance to talk, listen and explore how land reform connects with the issues that matter locally.

If you can’t attend in person, you can still have your say by completing the ScotLand Futures survey, which is open until Friday, September 6.
