Wick care home residents and staff delighted with support from community

A WICK care home has been overwhelmed by the support shown by the Caithness community during the coronavirus crisis.
Residents and staff at Seaview House say they have been deeply touched by the donations being handed in, including cakes, chocolates and flowers, as well as letters and pictures from nursery and primary pupils at Newton Park.
They have even been given the chance to enjoy a welcome dram thanks to the gift of whisky from Wolfburn.
"We want to say a massive thank-you to the members of the Caithness community who have been supporting the residents and staff at Seaview House during this difficult time," said Wendy McGowan, senior general manager at the Barchester Healthcare home.
"We have had cakes sent from family members, chocolates from Tesco, flowers from Frances Yellop, owner of the Flower Patch, whisky from Wolfburn Distillery, and many, many letters to residents from children and members of the community."
Due to the visitor restrictions enforced at the moment, the home, situated at Broadhaven, has turned to FaceTime and Skype to try and keep residents in contact with their loved ones. This has proved very popular.
Wendy pointed out: "Mandy Wilson, our activities coordinator, has been working flat out to ensure the community is aware of our daily life as we are cut off from the world at the moment.
"She has been putting daily updates on the Facebook page Capital Crack which has over 4200 members. She is an admin on the page so can add anyone who wants to keep up with what's happening at Seaview over the coming weeks and months.
"One of our activities sessions was to open some of the amazing letters sent in by our local community. We will now get on with replying and forming new friendships."
Another recent activity was a flower-arranging session which resulted in many residents being delighted to get a vase of flowers to brighten their rooms.
