Watten couple win case against North Coast Roofing which failed to carry out work
A Watten couple won a civil case against a Caithness roofing company that took a large deposit and failed to do the agreed work on their house.
Kat and Paul Gibbons paid £5750 to James and Ewen Beresford of North Coast Roofing based at The Smiddy near Thurso.
Mrs Gibbons said: “We tried everything to resolve it but he [James Beresford] never ordered our windows and never worked on our house except for one hour in four months.
“He gave constant excuses, even telling us that barn owls were living in our chimney. Then he proceeded to cap the chimney despite the RSPB telling us that we couldn’t work on that chimney until October at the end of the fledging season.”
A civil case against North Coast Roofing was started by Mr and Mrs Gibbons on November 20 last year. Sheriff Neil Wilson considered the response form and the claimant’s application for a decision.
The case was decided at Wick Sheriff Court with the couple being awarded £5000 in their claim against North Coast Roofing.
