WATCH: ‘Major Tom to Ground Control, I’m stepping into a potholed Thurso car park!’

Ahead of the refurbishment of the badly potholed Co-op car park in Thurso, a local wit has created a video lampooning its crater-like surface.

Lipka’s Paint Hoose supplies wallpaper, decorating sundries and, of course, paint to its Caithness customers but it also seems to be dishing out a few laughs too with a short film it posted on its Facebook page that has been viewed over 8000 times.

Lasting just over one minute, the short film highlights the adventures of a spaceman who lands at the Co-op car park and struggles with the monster potholes he encounters. Information is provided for the public to let them know how they can access the shop while works are carried out for the resurfacing of the area.

The retail car park was likened to an “open cast mine” by local councillors who warned that its damaged surface posed “risks to pedestrians, the visually impaired, prams and motorists”.

Work to fix the issues will take place on Thursday (July 4) at 7pm when the car park will be closed until 6pm the following day. Further work will take place next week when access will be restricted from Monday, July 8 until Friday, July 12.

Access to Lipka’s Paint Hoose will be via the path near the car park or the pink door on Riverside Place until all works are complete.
