WICK High School Parent Forum and Parent Council AGM will be held this Monday at 7pm.

This is the first time an AGM has been held virtually using the schools virtual Google Meet app. The Parent Forum is open to all parents/carers and if they contact WickHighPC@Gmail.com they will be sent an invite.

Parent Council chairperson Professor Iain Baikie said: “Our last two meetings have been held virtually and parent attendance was excellent. Acting rector Sebastian Sandecki gave parents a comprehensive update on the school procedures and how the school start-up was progressing. Parents gave him, and depute Rector Grant Mackenzie, a vote of thanks and a round of applause for their efforts."

"I hope parents will make the effort to sign up for this meeting and they will receive up to date information from Mr Sandecki who will be available to answer any questions."

The Parent Council is looking to help the school in many ways, says Professor Baikie. A current project, given the social distancing restrictions, is to seek funding for picnic benches so pupils can make more use of the outdoor spaces for recreation. It also wants the Highland Council to provide a short access path to the school's nearby athletics pitch and running track.

Professor Baikie continued: "We have tried to engage the Highland Council via the Campus Stakeholder group for some time but sadly our pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

"It is ironic that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and current MSP Gail Ross were photographed celebrating cutting the first turf for the new school on the original athletics pitch in July 2014. Although new facilities were provided pupils have never used them as the short path on the original plans was never implemented.

"I think our community will understand the urgent need to overcome any remaining bureaucratic obstacles and bring this space into use."
