A charity challenge by workers based at the Beatrice Wind Farm in Wick has raised £270 for the Caithness Foodbank.

Eleven employees of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) clocked up 1580 miles while taking part in the virtual cycle/run/walk event in March.

They originally aimed to cover the distance between Ramsgate which is where the SGRE London Array offshore wind farm is based and back. Ramsgate is 730 miles from Wick, making a round trip of 1460, however the team smashed this target, finishing with an extra 120 miles to add to the overall tally.

Graeme Clyne of SGRE, explained: "It was a virtual challenge for the full month of March where data was collected via various apps from 11 staff members based in Wick. It was very much just a do what you wish approach where various members started slowly but kept on doing more throughout the month."

Foodbank volunteer Pat Ramsay said: "We are delighted – it is great they have thought about us. We will put it to good use for some of the things we are beginning to run low of."
