The group behind an online video which sparked outrage along the north coast, have now issued an abject apology and said they set the "wrong example".

The 60-minute video posted on YouTube, but now taken down, showed the contents of a chemical toilet cassette being emptied along a lay-by.

The chemical toilet cassette is upended and its contents poured onto the ground.

The footage was taken at Bettyhill during a road trip in a motorhome round North Coast 500 by four young men from online film group TPD TV.

TPD TV initially responded that the clip was ‘taken out of context’ and was for entertainment, but after coming under increasing online pressure have now apologised and made a donation to Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Emptying waste water straight onto the ground has emerged as a major concern this summer with an influx of motorhome users and wild campers to the county.

TPD TV have now apologised over twitter, saying: "Over the last 72 hours we have been reflecting and learning how much of an issue pollution is in the Scottish Highlands.

"We have learned that this is an ongoing issue for people living the 'van life' - a life we covet and admire, along with a big concern to the residents of the Scottish Highlands in general.

“Whilst we can confidently say that we do stage a lot of our entertainment, that is not relevant. We set the wrong example this time and we want to do something to make it right. We've made a substantial donation to keepscotlandbeautiful. We love and respect Scotland dearly, which our regular viewers know."

Complaints have been made to Police Scotland and Highland Council’s environmental health department and it is understood an enquiry is under way.
