A WOMAN in Thurso talked about the shocking moment the family's car was found "flat to the road" with all four tyres punctured in what appeared to be a deliberate act of vandalism.

Doreen Eddowes said the silver-coloured Mondeo was parked at the top of a hill in Heathfield Road – where she lives with her husband Mark – on the night of May 26.

All four tyres of the Mondeo were punctured and the car was flat to the ground.

Mark was setting off to Aberdeen the following day for his job offshore and, on the way down, intended to deliver a television set to one of their daughters.

Doreen said: "He'd just put two new tyres on the car for going back and fore to work.

"He set off at around four o'clock to load up the car with his bag and the TV but then came back in saying 'for God's sake, the tyres are all slashed'.

"And they were really slashed – flat to the road. What a mess it was."

Doreen said she could poke her finger in the hole on one of the tyres, it was so wide.

"It looked like someone had used a very sharp knife and I don't think it was a passing vandal," she said.

"They intended to do this to this particular car – it was deliberately targeted."

She added that her husband then asked their son-in-law if he was willing to drive him all the way to Aberdeen there and then.

"He did it at short notice and came all the way back up the road again which was really kind of him."

Doreen said that her husband is "absolutely raging" about the incident.

"It's costing for the four new tyres and the travel costs for getting him offshore too. It'll probably be about £400 to £500 all in."

A neighbour reported hearing "four bangs" at around 4am, according to Doreen, and this is assumed to be the tyres being punctured.

Another witness told her they had seen a suspicious car in the area at around that same time.

Doreen also thinks that a neighbour may have CCTV footage of the incident and hopes to get verification of that.

She went on to say how one of her five daughters, Chloe, had also been using the car and may have been targeted by someone she had fallen out with.

"The police did a great job when they came round first of all, doing door-to-door investigations, but we've not had any updates from them. It has been really frustrating."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4pm on Tuesday, May 26, police received a report of a car being damaged overnight.

"A vehicle parked in Heathfield Road, Ormlie, Thurso, had all four tyres damaged.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 23.38 of 26 May."
