A man who admitted a reduced charge of careless driving on the A9 in Caithness was disqualified for two weeks at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Peter McGuigan, who had been living in Thurso at the time of the offence but had returned to Northern Ireland shortly before Christmas, was also fined £200.

The 38-year-old was stopped by police on the A9 between Scrabster and Thurso, on May 15, last year. He was said to have been driving at speeds of up to 90 mph.

Sheriff Andrew Berry, who heard that McGuigan now operated a school run in Ballykelly, noted that the accused had a previous conviction for speeding and another for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
