Trust trio will help to develop Thurso community projects
Three new faces have been welcomed to the community trust leading a range of sustainable development initiatives in Thurso.
Helen Allan, chairperson of Thurso Community Development Trust (TCDT), says the trio will help to run existing projects while also playing their part in responding to a community survey.
The latest to join the team this month is Alexandra Henderson, the trust’s new development manager.
She said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to work with TCDT and look forward to working with the board, staff, volunteers and Thurso community.”
For most of Alexandra’s career she has been owner/manager of various small businesses. In 2019 she moved to Dundee to take up the role of centre manager/lead coach with The Brae Riding for the Disabled.
After four years, however, she was keen to return home to Caithness and be closer to family and friends. She moved into community development in January 2023, beginning as centre and development manager with Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Development Company.
Brian Murphy is the trust’s new finance and admin officer, having joined last month. Brian lives locally with his family and has done a variety of jobs and plenty of volunteering.
He is particularly interested in the support and community aspects of the work TCDT does and operates out of its office in Rotterdam Street.
Mrs Allan said: “It’s brilliant to have someone familiar with Thurso and some of the people and projects at the trust.”
The other new member of staff is Danny MacKenzie. He also started last month on a six-month work placement and is assisting the gardens and greenhouses projects.
Gardens development officer Sharon Dismore said: “Danny is a natural with plants and we are so excited to have him on board.”
Mrs Allan added: “We are delighted to be welcoming new faces to Thurso Community Development Trust. They will be helping us to maintain and develop our existing projects as well as the exciting task of carrying out the results of our recent community survey, which we hope to publish in the next few weeks.”
Mrs Allan pointed out that TCDT is always open to people who would like to join and help improve the town. Anyone wishing to find out more about becoming a member or a volunteer, or joining the board and helping to shape the trust’s plans, can call 01847 867310 or email info@thursocdt.co.uk
