They will see the trunk road closed near Ulbster from Tuesday, May 6. Work will start at 7pm and continue through the night until 6am each day from Sunday to Thursday until May 19 when the works are scheduled to be finished.

No works will be carried out on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Bear said that the closures were to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the public.

There will be amnesties offered to road users at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, midnight, 2am and 4am. An alternative route is available via the A9 and A882 for motorists wishing to bypass the works.

Ian Stewart, Bear Scotland’s north-west representative, said: “These maintenance works on the A99 near Ulbster will fix existing defects and make the road surface more durable and resilient against inclement weather.

“The overnight closures are essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete this project. We encourage motorists to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”

Bear added that materials removed from the existing carriageway will be recycled using SEPA-approved methods.
