Trophy time as prizes handed out at Reiss Gardening Club’s annual show

Reiss Gardening Club’s annual show was well supported, with the usual colourful display of plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables.

The tables were topped off by a magnificent display in the children’s section, which surprised the judges when they entered the hall.

The trophies at the Reiss Gardening Club's annual flower and vegetable show were shared between three ladies. For the second successive year Linda Tait (second left) collected an armful of trophies, taking home the overall points trophy, along with silverware for pot plants, cut flowers, fruit and most points for a Reiss Gardening Club member. Maureen Johnston (second right) had the best exhibit with a basket of vegetables and also won trophies for most points in vegetables, fruit and fruit and vegetables. James Macdonald, accompanied by his wife Liz, had the tough job of judging the pot plants, cut flowers and floral art. James Rosie, along with his son, judged the great array of fruit and vegetables.

Overall, entries were up with a high standard all round, organisers of the event at Reiss Hall said. The entries in the pot plant section were down, but entries in the cut flowers section were better than expected considering the wet and windy conditions in the lead-up to the show.

There was a tremendous display of fruit and vegetables in all sections.

Classes from Noss Primary School showed off their artistic talents and had clearly put a lot of work into their entries, which really enhanced the overall show’s display.

There were many new faces among the visitors to the show in the evening who enjoyed the entries along with an opportunity to try their luck at the bottle stall and with the raffle. There were other stalls offering baking, vegetables and plants for sale before the prize-giving.

The trophies were presented by Mrs Moira Gunn.

Reiss Gardening Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month in Reiss Hall at 2pm. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 1, when the topic for the day will be “Sheep’s Wool”. There will be a spinning demonstration and discussion on how it can be used in the garden.

New members are always welcome to join.
