Trinkie group sees positive moves thanks to Wick optician’s £2000 donation

After an article was published about a Wick outdoor swimming pool desperately seeking funding, a breakthrough occurred thanks to a local optician.

Catherine Sapalski from the Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group (THPG) said its members “are absolutely delighted to have received a generous donation” of £2000 from Specsavers optician on Bridge Street in Wick.

She says that THPG was contacted by Ian Morris from Specsavers in Wick immediately after the article was published in the John O’Groat Journal. “He said £2000 will be donated towards repairing the Trinkie from Specsavers and hopefully, this will encourage others to contribute towards your goal of raising £10,000.”

Catherine adds: “The committee has been busy delivering letters to local businesses and working behind the scenes on funding applications. They are hopeful that their target will be achieved and that the repair will go ahead this year but understand that there is a hard road ahead.”

She says that the public has been “very complimentary and supportive of the Trinkie and would love to see it restored and looking lovely again”, safe in the knowledge that it is structurally sound and should last for many, many years.

“The dedicated committee members are doing their utmost to retain the Trinkie and want to thank everyone who has donated towards the cause. It is very much appreciated.”
