The Kyiv Classic Accordion Duo returns to Thurso next week.

Two Ukrainian musicians are returning to Caithness to play in aid of victims of the Russian war in their homeland as well as children and young adults affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Oleksii Kolomoiets and Igor Sayenko, who together make up the Kyiv Classic Accordion Duo, will perform at St Peter and the Holy Rood church at 7pm on Tuesday, August 20.

The pair graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kiev in 2006 and have both played in orchestras.

Their concern for the plight of the children in the Chernihiv region, the area worst affected by the Chernobyl disaster, led them to undertake fundraising tours of the UK over the summer.

The duo perform for free but accept donations on behalf of the HIPPOKRAT Society of Mothers of Disabled Children.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, they have also been raising money for victims of the war.

Oleksii and Igor, who previously played in Thurso in 2022 and 2023, will perform world classic masterpieces as well as the “greatest examples” of Ukrainian music.

Admission to the concert is free with a request for a charitable donation.

Past attendees have been very generous in giving money after performances.
