Thurso sisters’ charity bid through sales of Top Trumps style cards
Two young Caithness girls have been busy assessing the county’s swing parks and have now created Top Trumps style cards with their rankings.
Sisters Lois (11) and Zara (6) Manson love swing parks and in the summer of 2023 attempted to visit and rank all 55 or so of Caithness’ facilities for youngsters.
“It proved a stretch too far, only getting to about 40 of them but undeterred they decided to give it another go,” said dad Derek.
This time, however, they combined it with one of their favourite games, Top Trumps, and are raising money from sales of the cards for the Caithness FM toy appeal 2024.
Derek adds: “So, in their summer holidays they visited 32 swing parks covering 150 miles from Reay in the west to Canisbay in the northeast and as far south as Dunbeath and everywhere in between.”
The swing parks were all rigorously tested, scored (on swings, chutes, climbing frames, ‘funness’ and upkeep), photographed and have now been turned into a Top Trumps style card game using an online supplier.
The cards are for sale on Facebook at Swing Park Top Trumps and via email at swinparktt@gmail.com
They will be also made available to purchase at various outlets throughout November and December “with the aim of selling as many games as possible to make as much as possible for a great cause”.
