Thurso ‘Rumble’ raises cash for local dementia support
The ‘Rock N Roll Rumble’ music event at the Park Hotel on Saturday, September 28 raised £1420.11 for Alzheimer Scotland with more cash to come too.
The event was billed as a collection of live acts performing upbeat rock n’ roll and soul along with rhythm and blues. Revellers were said to have “had a great time on the night” with a combo of upbeat music from three local bands, Barracuda, The Manglers and The Robbie Pie Band. Entry was by donations at the door and all proceeds, including a raffle, were donated to Alzheimer Scotland in Caithness.
Organiser Robbie Macdonald said: “It was a great night, the bands really brought their ‘A Game’, and the feedback from the attendees was very positive. In fact, plans are afoot to do this all over again next year.”
Robbie added: “And, it gets even better as the Bank of Scotland has generously offered to match [the charity money], making the total raised an incredible £2840.22.”
He says that the funds raised will make a difference to both carers and those affected by dementia in the local community. This includes the Memory Café held every second Tuesday at Thurso Rugby Club; the carers support group held at Thurso Library on the last Wednesday of each month; and ad hoc events being held throughout the year.
