Thurso pupils get royal seal of approval
PUPILS at a Thurso primary have been delighted to receive the royal seal of approval for the artwork they made to celebrate the Queen’s diamond anniversary celebrations.
The jubilee collage made by Primary 6 pupils in their summer term was the subject of a despatch sent from Buckingham Palace which the youngsters at Mount Pleasant found out about on their return to class after the holidays.
The 20 pupils had enclosed a photo of the collage along with a card expressing their congratulations on the Queen reaching the milestone. The reply came from Susan Hussey, one of the Queen’s ladies-in-waiting.
It read: "The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for the splendid message which you sent on the occasion of her Majesty’s diamond jubilee. The queen was delighted to see the photograph and thought you had made the collage beautifully."
Christine Firth, Mount Pleasant’s temporary deputy head teacher said the 20 pupils — now in Primary 7 — were thrilled to read the correspondence from the palace.
She said: "The pupils loved the jubilee celebrations and they were over the moon to get the letter.
"It’s now going to go on display in the school."
The collage, which features the Union Jack, was part of an exhibition focusing on the royal jubilee at the Caithness Horizons visitor centre in Thurso in June.
