Thurso man twice drug-driving limit is banned
A drug-driver who was more than twice the legal limit was fined £400 and banned for a year at Wick Sheriff Court on Thursday.
Murray Cameron (31) was stopped by police officers making a routine check in Princes Street, Thurso, on December 14, last year.
Fiscal depute Grant McLennan said that apart from the fact that Cameron was wearing his work uniform, there was “nothing remarkable” about the offence.
A roadside test proved positive and a follow-up test revealed a reading of 123 mcg of benzoylecgonine – the legal limit is 50 mcg.
Cameron, of Pennyland Terrace, Thurso, was also uninsured.
Sheriff Neil Wilson commented on the “relatively high reading” but gave Cameron, who pleaded guilty, credit for his early plea.
The accused’s licence was endorsed with six penalty points on the insurance charge.
