A Thurso man who made a menacing phone call has been given an opportunity to demonstrate he can behave.

During the call, David More (32) threatened to “hold James Ross down and kick his teeth in”.

Wick Sheriff Court was told on Tuesday that a history of bad blood between their two families might have prompted the unwelcome mobile phone call.

Mr Ross was visiting friends in the John O’Groats area when he received the call around mid-afternoon, on June 27.

His phone was in speaker mode and the threat was overheard by a witness close by.

More, of Stainland Drive, Thurso, admitted making the offensive call and a record.

Solicitor Josey Donachie said that the accused had been struggling with his mental health at the time and was remorseful about his actions.

Sheriff Andrew Berry, who saw a background report, observed that the offence had occurred only a month after a period of supervision, imposed on the accused in connection with an unrelated offence, had ended.

The sheriff, who noted that More was still in touch with social workers, stressed it was “critically important” that he worked with them to resolve issues in his life.

The case was continued until March 2, when Sheriff Berry will consider a supplementary background report before passing sentence.
