Thurso Library at Davidson Lane has been shut for three years.

THE refurbished Thurso Library is due to open again next month after being closed for nearly three years.

The facility shut in January 2013 initially for just 12 weeks while work was done to deal with asbestos. However, major structural problems were discovered, forcing the historic building to remain closed.

But now after a £1,024,000 revamp, the building in Davidson’s Lane is scheduled to re-open in October, although the date has yet to be firmed up.

A spokesman for High Life Highland, which runs the library on behalf of Highland Council, said all the books and other items housed in the temporary library in Princes Street would have to be transferred back.

New books have also been ordered.
