Scottish Hydro has apologised to customers.

A suspected lightning strike cut power to over 400 homes in Thurso yesterday.

A Scottish Hydro Electric power distribution spokeswoman told www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk that damage to an overhead line caused 476 houses in the Mount Pleasant area to be cut off from the National Grid at around 12.52pm.

Of the affected houses, 432 had power restored within 33 minutes, with the remaining 44 getting electricity back by 5.52pm.

The spokeswomen said the cause of the damage is being investigated but is likely to have been caused by a lightning strike.
