Thurso cinema scoops £50k to fund improvements
THURSO Cinema Ltd has beaten off competition from businesses across Scotland to secure £50,000 funding to help increase its range of facilities.
The two-screen venue was one of four companies to be crowned winners of the Scottish Edge awards which aim to support and encourage entrepreneurial activity in Scotland.
The money will be used for the redevelopment of the full frontage of the cinema and to create a conferencing and events facility, as part of broader plans to establish a digital entertainment centre in Thurso.
Thirteen other businesses from across the country were awarded runner-up grants which ranged between £20,000 and £40,000.
The cinema, which reopened in July, recently announced plans to open a new family restaurant and bar at the former Liquid pub in Ormlie Road, creating up to 10
Last week, the venue celebrated its 40,000th customer in only seven months of reopening, attracting over 1400 customers a week.
