Spring was in the air for the second of Thurso Camera Club’s weekly photo challenges.

With the season of renewal as the theme this time, the photographers came up with a collection of creative and technically accomplished images with subjects ranging from newborn lambs to colourful blooms.

The top six were: 1 Julie Catterall, “Feathering the nest”; 2 Jean Mackay, “Spring flowers”; 3 James Gunn, “Just chilling”; 4 Colin Campbell, “Spring lamb”; 5 Ally Mackechnie, “Blooming lockdown”; 6 Ruthie Nicholls, “Standing out from the crowd”.

Alex Henderson leads the competition after the first two rounds with 15 points.

Overall league standings: 1 Alex Henderson, 15 points; 2eq Jean Mackay and Colin Campbell, 14 points; 4 James Gunn, 12 points.

The weekly photo challenge was introduced after the club’s outdoor summer field trips had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis.

A different theme is chosen every week and voting is carried out online. First place gains 10 points, down to one point for 10th.

The topic for the first week was a still life photo that must include a fruit and the top three places went to Alex Henderson, Neil Buchan and Neil Holden respectively.
