Thurso and Dounreay firefighter Iain Elder and his colleagues decided to clean up Thurso's boating pond and put out a social media post inviting volunteers to come along and help.

Around 30 volunteers turned up on Tuesday morning with rakes and nets and they made a thorough job of cleaning the water and removing rubbish from the pond.

Thurso Community Council called it a fantastic effort and a great example of the community joining together to improve the town.

Pentland Model Boat Club also thanked Iain and the volunteers as its members normally use the pond, although they have been unable to do so lately as it was full of algae.
