‘Thousands of far north pensioners will be worried’ – Stone speaks out after Winter Fuel Payments cut

Jamie Stone, MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, has voted this week against the Government’s plans to cut the Winter Fuel Payment.

The vote was passed by the Labour Government despite some of the Prime Minister’s MPs refusing to back his decision to scrap the controversial decision. The motion to block the government plans had been backed by all 72 Liberal Democrat MPs.

Commenting after the vote, Mr Stone said: “Thousands of pensioners across our communities will be left deeply worried about how they will get by this winter with this cut to the Winter Fuel Payment.

“So many pensioners are already facing another winter of a cost of living crisis and this will make things worse. This is particularly worrying in the far north - one of the coldest parts of the UK.

“I proudly opposed the Government this week and stood up for the many pensioners in the constituency who are now at risk of an even bigger winter cost of living crisis.

“My colleagues and I will continue fighting for the real change people want to see.”
