There have been no new deaths from either confirmed or suspected Covid-19 in the last seven days in the NHS Highland area – the third week in a row this has been the case.

There has been one death in the area since June 7.

That means the current coronavirus-related death toll in the health board area remains at 115.

Each Wednesday the National Records of Scotland (NRS) issues numbers of cases where Covid-19 has been mentioned on a death certificate.

The total number of NHS Highland deaths in care homes remains at 39, while there have been 15 deaths at home and 61 in hospital.

Within the smaller Highland Council area the total death toll remains at 51, with 16 in care homes, seven at home and 28 in hospital.

Scotland as a whole has seen a rise in the total number of Covid-19 deaths of seven – bringing the total to 4208.

Pete Whitehouse, NRS director of statistical services, said: “Loss of life from this virus is tragic and every death represents loss and heartbreak for families throughout the country.

“Today’s figures show seven more deaths due to Covid-19, showing a similar level for three consecutive weeks. These figures are significantly lower than the peak week in mid- April when 661 Covid-19 related deaths were registered.

“Monitoring the progress of this virus is important and National Records of Scotland will continue to work with Scottish Government and Health Protection Scotland to understand its impact in Scotland.”
