Swimmers and gym users have been given the go-ahead to return to Wick's East Caithness Community Facility from Monday morning.

Speaking on behalf of Highland Council and High Life Highland, facility manager Alan Larnach confirmed that the pool and fitness area at the Wick campus site will reopen to the public on August 31 at 7am.

It will be the first joint school and community facility in the Highland region to open its doors after the coronavirus restrictions were eased.

“This is the news we have been waiting for, and I am absolutely positive our local Highlife members and customers will be delighted to be regaining access to the location at the start of the week," Mr Larnach said.

“High Life Highland fully appreciated that Highland Council’s priority was to ensure school pupils returned to full-time education safely, and we have supported that position throughout.

“However, I am pleased that through positive and open discussions at a senior level in both organisations we have managed to reach an agreement that East Caithness Community Facility will be the first joint school and community facility in the Highlands to reopen.

“The team and I are very much looking forward to seeing our local users return to the location on the day the Scottish Government’s restrictions for access to leisure centres and swimming pools are lifted.”
