WELSH four-piece rock band Stereophonics will play an outdoor gig at the Bught Park in Inverness on July 11 from Northern Nights presents – the first time the band will have played this area since a three-band tour to the city's now demolished Railway Club in 1996.

A year later the band released their first official single Local Boy In The Photograph which – when re-released a year later – charted at number 14, with second singleThe Bartender And The Thief charting at number three.

To date the band have sold over 8,500,000 albums in the UK and over 10 million copies worldwide.

Speaking about the latest show announcements the band said: "We have some special summer shows! We are excited to play to new audiences in new towns and cities – let there be SUN!"

The band has already confirmed a busy schedule in the first half of 2020 with 13 European shows ahead of a 12-date arena tour across UK in February and March, where they will entertain fans with a collection of favourites as well as tracks from their new number one album, Kind.

Throughout their career, Stereophonics have usually kept to a two-year cycle of album release, The latest, Kind, came out last year when it became their seventh album to achieve number one.

It took longer for Stereophonics to get their first number one single – that came with Dakota in 2005 from album Language. Sex. Violence. Other? But many singles had charted in the top 10 before it, including Just Looking, Pick A Part That's New, Mr Writer, Have A Nice Day, Handbags And Gladrags, Maybe Tomorrow and Moviestar.

From early beginnings in previous band Zephyr, singer Kelly Jones and drummer Stuart Cable – who grew up on the same street in village Cwmaman – got together before falling out.

Back together, it was in 1992 that previous bassist Mark Everett went on holiday, and Kelly brought in current bassist Richard Jones – also from Cwmaman – to cover the fortnight without Everett so the band could rehearse. Stuart Cable was so impressed with Richard's style that he asked Kelly if they could keep him – and they broke the bad news to Everett on his return. At that time, the three-piece was still called Tragic Love Company but changed the name to Sterephonics after Stuart spotted the name Falcon Stereophonics on an old gramophone.

Tragically in 2010, drummer Stuart Cable was found dead, having choked after a drinking session.

The current line-up has drummer Jamie Morrison – he joined in 2012 and rhythm guitarist Adam Zindani, a band member since 2007.

Tickets for the show go on sale at 10am on Friday, January 31 via www.myticket.co.uk

"We are absolutely over the moon to be bringing one of the UK’s most loved bands to Inverness this July in what is set to be the highlight of the summer!" Caroline Campbell (Northern Nights).

The Inverness Show is being delivered under the Northern Nights banner. Northern Nights is made up of members of the team behind the successful Belladrum Tartan Heart & Gathering Festival's and Inverness' Ironworks Venue.
