Staff praised for providing mental health support in Caithness over Christmas
Caithness Mental Health Support Group (CMHSG) centres in Wick and Thurso kept their doors open over the festive period to the delight of their members.
Staff at Stepping Stones in Thurso and The Haven in Wick gave up time with their own families to ensure that everyone in the community had the opportunity to spend Christmas and New Year’s Day with others, enjoying not just each other’s company but a home-cooked dinner.
Group manager, Sarah Simpson said.”I am new to the charity and have quickly developed immense pride in our teams in Thurso and Wick. They truly excel in their roles and stepping into either of the centres you instantly feel a sense of family.”
Sarah says it highlights the CMHSG’s commitment to providing a welcoming, safe and friendly environment for anybody over the age of 16 who may be experiencing isolation, depression or other difficulties due to poor mental health.
The Wick and Thurso facilities champion “a safe space, with dedicated staff who go out of their way” to provide daily hot meals, company and stimulating activities. She says the charity is unique within the community and is open 365 days a year.
Sarah adds: “I’d like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to Ange, Jackie, Julia, Gillian, Suzanne, Bev, Shellie, May, Jane, Alice, Erin, Dave, Ryan, Cheryl, Julie, Gemma, Karen, Ruth, Tricia, Cathy, and Natasha.
“The invaluable service you provide to our community is very much appreciated, and it’s all made possible by the hard work and commitment of you all.”
