SSE powers ahead with far north road repairs
SSE is to carry out temporary emergency repairs to a number of rural roads in Caithness where it accepts damage has been caused by HGV traffic associated with the clutch of major construction projects it is involved in.
The energy utility firm has identified more than 30 blackspots where it is to target potholes and ruts which have appeared in the wake of its work to lay cables and build new plant.
In the meantime, it is putting up traffic cones and warning signs at the sites and discussing with the roads authority more permanent repairs to the stretches of carriageway.
Landward Caithness Highland councillor Matthew Reiss, who is campaigning for greater maintenance on rural roads in Caithness, has welcomed the announcement.
