A virtual bulb show has provided a welcome bit of spring cheer for local members of the Scottish Women's Institutes.

Over 60 colourful photograph entries were made to the Facebook event organised by the West of Caithness SWI with institutes throughout the county joining in. Sadly the usual bulb show had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Secretary of the event Ruth Manson said: "We held a West of Caithness SWI virtual bulb show on Facebook to give members the chance to display what they have grown and brighten up social media with the promise of spring.

"It was really successful with lots of photos from institutes all over the county including entries from the East of Caithness whose bulb show was also cancelled."

She explained that for many of the members opportunities for cheer had been limited recently so getting the chance to see pictures of their blooms being published had been welcomed.

Among the institutes taking part were Dunnet, Spittal, Bower, Banniskirk, Killimster, Thrumster and Berriedale.
