‘Sew good to be back,’ say Thurso stitchers

The organisers of a sewing group in Thurso will soon be starting up again after having a summer break.

On Wednesday, August 21 at 6pm the ‘Sewing Together Growing Together’ project held at the Ormlie Centre in Henderson Street is restarting after the summer break with the two hourly weekly sessions focussed on learning how to make quilts.

At the summer exhibition of the Society of Caithness Artists, group organisers Louise Smith and Veda Johnstone gained inspiration from the quilt masterpiece produced by Isobel McBey.

Louise said: “In addition, the sewers’ Whatsapp group has been talking over the summer about making a variety of stuffed toys for the emergency services.

“This would use recycled clothing donated to the group by individuals and organisations such as Cancer Research and New Start Highland, and the kindness of their Thurso-based charity shops.”

Anyone interested in joining the group should, in the first instance, contact project organiser, Louise Smith on 07776225549 or email louinscot@aol.com
