ScotRail train looks a little lost… after train decked in Fife livery winds up on Far North Line in Caithness
Rail passengers on the Far North Line would be forgiven for doing a double take when their train turned up on Tuesday morning decked entirely in livery for a new branch line... in Fife.
The 8.02am Wick to Inverness service was formed out of a train that was repainted earlier this year to celebrate the reopening of the new Levenmouth Rail Link branch line in Fife.
At the time, delighted Fife residents snapped numerous images of the train plying its trade on that route after the five-mile line reopened for the first time since the notorious Beeching cuts axed passenger services in 1969.
But as time has gone on, the train seems to have gone for a wee bit of a wander on occasion.
For it isn't the first time the train has been spotted in the north, having been seen on a number of occasions sitting at platforms five and six in Inverness during the summer.
But even after those surprise appearances far from 'home', few passengers in the likes of Thurso will have expected to see a train covered in livery and landmarks from Fife when their service rolled up at the platform this morning.
Maybe the train's getting a little ‘bored’ with doing the same route in Fife every day?
Although one can’t help but pity the poor tourists frantically checking they’re on the right train after looking to travel to Wick on carriages that are clearly marked as being the “Levenmouth Rail Link”.
