With his owner's vehicle being seen parked up at a local supermarket could a famous cartoon dog be on the loose in Wick?

A Bedford van painted up to resemble the Mystery Machine – from Hanna Barbera animated children's show Scooby Doo, Where Are You? – was photographed in the Wick Tesco car park but there was no sign of the "meddling mutt" himself.

Scooby lore has it that the psychedelic blue van with green accents and orange flowers was previously owned by a hippy band before series character Fred Jones bought it for his organisation called Mystery Inc – a team derided by villains as "meddling teens" (plus a goofy talking Great Dane) who go on the road to solve supernatural crime capers.

Fans say the original cartoon van was a mid-’60s Chevy G-Body panel or a Dodge A100 but the one seen in Wick appears to be a Bedford Rascal – a small economical van sold in the UK from 1986 to 1994.

Scooby Doo, Where Are You? – which started in 1969 – is still running after more than 50 years in its current incarnation as Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? produced by Warner Bros Animation.

Perhaps the owner of the Mystery Machine seen at Wick was in the supermarket buying the cartoon dog's favourite treats, Scooby snacks?
