Caithness, Sutherland and Ross MSP Maree Todd says rural communities have been overlooked in energy system
Local MSP Maree Todd is urging stakeholders in the area to engage with a review of the UK energy system which she says is "unjust".
The SNP member for Caithness Sutherland and Ross says that rural communities have been overlooked and wants local stakeholders to engage in the UK government’s Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA).
She said: “I have written to local stakeholders in my constituency to highlight the UK government’s REMA consultation and to encourage engagement.
“The energy system is broken and in need of urgent reform. The fragility of the market has been exposed in recent months but households and businesses in my constituency and across the Highlands have long suffered from an unjust energy market that predates the current cost crisis.
“It is therefore crucial that in the REMA consultation the experiences of rural communities who have been significantly overlooked are well represented and given rightful consideration ahead of future reforms.
“I’m keen to see local stakeholders engage to provide this local view and an account of how the electricity market in its current form is impacting the people and businesses they interact with in their local communities.
“I will also be submitting a formal response to relay the experiences of my constituents.”
The REMA consultation closes on October 10.
