THURSO rock band Estrella are releasing a charity single with the help of oil and gas industry workers to help people affected by cancer and leukaemia.

The band was approached by Stephen Wares, from Thurso, who, along with friends Cammy Bowden and Kevin Kilroy in Aberdeen, is entering a competition which aims to raise as much money as possible for their chosen charity, Clan Cancer Support.

Given £100 to go towards creating a product to raise money for charity, the trio have worked with Estrella to create an uplifting charity single and music video to bring hope not just to cancer sufferers but to workers in the oil and gas industry which has experienced severe job losses over the last 12 months.

Mr Wares is a huge fan of Estrella and was overwhelmed when the band said they would help his team out.

“This has been an exciting challenge for us,” he said. “After we all listened to the tracks from Estrella’s second album, We Will Go On, the team thought the lyrics of Wheels Keep Turning fitted perfectly.

“It’s a highly motivational song that empowers and encourages us all to never give up and to keep moving on.

“After approaching the band to take part, they kindly donated all proceeds from the single to our challenge. If we raise a lot of money for CLAN, we may even get Estrella’s single to enter the UK’s top 40 charts.

“That would be a double achievement for us.”

Estrella’s lead guitarist, Luke Gunn, said the band was happy to help.

He said: “We are delighted to be involved with this project and an entry for Wheels Keep Turning into the UK’s top 40 would raise a lot of much- needed funds for the charity and at the same time hugely increase the awareness of the excellent work Clan are doing.

“As the clocks are about to spring forward next weekend we would urge our Estrella Warriors and everyone backing the charity single to get a copy early, as we are already losing an hour, to gain as many sales as possible.”

To coincide with the release, the team has been recording a music video over the past few weeks featuring Estrella, local companies, oil and gas workers, with special guest Clan’s mascot, Clancy the Rabbit, in the starring role.
