Roads across the north are reported to be suffering from excess surface water after a couple of days of snow and ice.

In parts of Sutherland there was still slush and some icy patches this morning, according to Highland Council's roads teams.

In Caithness, there were positive road temperatures but more surface water than usual due to melt and precipitation.

All roads were being treated where necessary according to the local authority's gritting priority policy.

Drivers are urged to take caution and assess road conditions themselves.
