Record sale levels as demand remains high at Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts Caithness sales

Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts (April 11) sold 880 prime, store and feeding sheep.

Old Season Prime lambs (291) averaged 240p to 258.1p for 37kg Suffolks from Hoy Farm, Halkirk and £146.50 gross for Suffolk’s from East Murkle, Murkle.

Old Season Store Lambs (291) sold to £127.50 twice for Texel ewe lamb from 31 Larel, Watten and for a Blue Texel from Clatequoy, Thurso.

Feeding Ewes and Rams (298) averaged £119.55 to £235 for a pair of Texels from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield.

“The firm sold 731 head of prime, store and feeding sheep at record levels for the Quoybrae Centre. Ewe lambs were in excellent demand selling to £168 for a pen of grand N C Cheviots from West Point, Mid-Keiss.

"Prime lambs peaked at £152 with a very strong average of 289p per kg and £125.63 per head.

"Store lambs also excelled reaching £142 per head with long keep lambs also keenly bid for.

"The feeding ewe section topped at £191 for Texels from Hill of Forss with the entire offering averaging an impressive £109.27.

"Trade for all stock sold at rates well in excess of sellers expectations and many more are required for our next sale on May 3 to satisfy ongoing demand.”
