MEMBERS of Reay Garden Club are preparing for their annual show in the Victoria Hall at the end of this month.

The show, open to anyone in Caithness and Sutherland, takes place on Saturday, August 31, starting at 2.30pm.

Anyone who would like to exhibit can either stage their entries on the Friday evening between 7pm and 8pm or on the morning of the show between 9am and 11am.

Schedules are available from Buds ‘n’ Blooms, Flower Daze, garden centres, the Reay Shop, the veterinary surgery in Thurso and the club secretary.

We will have a sales table with an assortment of cuttings, flowers and plants.

Club member Evelyn Mowat said: “If you come along you will enjoy a wide range of colour in the form of flower arranging, pot plants, cut flowers, vegetables, fruit, produce and baking. Afternoon teas will be available.

“This year we will have a sales table with an assortment of cuttings, flowers and plants. We encourage the young folk to get involved and have classes for pre-school and schoolchildren in the baking sections.

“We must not forget the ever-popular class of making something, which this year is to make Man on the Moon – this year being the 50th anniversary of the moon landing – from fruit and/or vegetables.”

Reay Primary School teacher Lesley Adamson will be handing over the medals and trophies.

Evelyn said: “The club is very grateful to Reay school for all the hard work and effort put in by all to producing the displays made. These can be seen in the hall on the day of the show.”

The club meets on the first Wednesday of every month in the Reay hall. “We have a varying programme, which is not all on a gardening theme, with slides, talks, discussions, outings and other social activities,” Evelyn added. “If you fancy an evening out please do come along and join us where you would be made most welcome.”
