Raigmore Hospital's Ward 7A is closed to new admissions and essential visitors following the detection of a "small number" of norovirus cases.

Patients are being clinically assessed and monitored with normal in-patient care continuing, stressed NHS Highland.

A spokeswoman for the health board said: "We are being cautious with visiting to Ward 7A, we know norovirus is in the community and would rather take this precaution while we assess the situation. If your visit is essential, please contact the hospital ward on 01463 704000, and the staff will support you with making arrangements to visit safely."

Vanda Plecko, NHS Highland clinical lead for microbiology and an infection control doctor, said: “We would stress that visitors do not come to hospital to visit if they have, or live with someone who has, had any vomiting or diarrhoea within the previous 72 hours. By doing this we will be able to limit the spread as much as possible.”

A further update is expected later on Monday.
