AFTER 25 years of serving the Caithness community a sensory impairment service celebrated in style at the Pentland Hotel in Thurso on Saturday.
Deirdre Aitken, manager of Hearing and Sight Care (HSC), said: "Today is a celebration of 25 years of this organisation. It began in 1994 in Wick and was called Caithness Deaf Care back then."
Deirdre said that the service has centres in both Wick and Thurso which are open part-time from Monday to Friday.
"It was originally the brainchild of a lady called Helen Nicholson who was hard of hearing herself and felt the need for services locally for people with hearing loss."
In 1994, the organisation had 64 clients registered with it but went on to include services for people with visual impairment and subsequently changed its name.
There are more than 1600 registered users for the service now and Saturday's event was a chance for partners, board members and volunteers past and present, along with funders and service users, to come along and enjoy a finger buffet and cake.
The celebration day brought many together and also included a chance to go down memory lane with an archive of articles and photos about Hearing and Sight Care on show.
