Post Office Ltd issues clarification over Wick mobile unit
Post Office Ltd has issued a clarification after giving wrong information when publicising the arrangements for Wick's new mobile post office service.
Its London press office sent out a media release last Friday explaining that the temporary unit will visit the town's riverside car park four times a week from early November.
The release said the mobile post office service will be provided by the postmaster for Lybster. That is not the case, however.
A Post Office Ltd spokesperson said last night: “The new temporary mobile post office service for Wick is provided by Glyn Jackson, who already provides the mobile post office service to many rural communities. We were incorrectly advised that the service was operated by the postmaster for Lybster.”
The current post office in Bridge Street, Wick, within the card and gift shop Best Wishes, will cease to trade on Friday, October 30.
The mobile service is scheduled to start on Tuesday, November 3. The opening hours will be Tuesday, 2.45-3.45pm; Wednesday, 9am-3pm; Thursday, 9am-1pm; and Friday, 1.30-3.30pm. There will be no service on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Post Office Ltd spokesperson said: "The travelling post office is aboard a specifically designed vehicle. It is a tried and tested way of maintaining service to communities.
"It provides the best possible temporary solution to maintain post office services to the community while we continue to seek a permanent solution."
