Police investigate smashed door at former M&Co shop in Wick
A civic-minded citizen contacted the paper after fears there was a break-in at a former shop on Wick’s High Street last week.
The anonymous source shared the image of a backdoor to the premises lying open and with a hole in the glass as if someone may have used this as a point of entry to the former M&Co shop.
The shop closed in March 2023, along with the Thurso branch, but has been targeted by vandals. Hooligan behaviour in the same area was highlighted earlier this year at a meeting of Wick’s community council.
Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council members condemned the youths who had been observed on several occasions throwing stones in and around Tolbooth Lane close to the former M&Co premises.
Police visited the building on Friday (October 3) but reported it “was not a break-in”.
A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Officers attended and it was established that damage to the door of the premises is old. Suitable advice was provided.”
