A shout-out has been given by the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service for Caithness residents to give blood at Wick Assembly Rooms next week.

Gillian McCauley, NHS donor recruitment and publicity officer, said that A and O blood groups are especially welcome at the session in Wick on Wednesday, August 4.

She said: "The good weather, lockdown easing and the school holidays, mean we really need donors with the blood group A and O. Please make a special effort to keep your appointment, and let us know if you need to cancel. If you’ve never given blood before, or haven’t for a while, now’s the time to donate."

Gillian added that the NHS need at least 125 donors on the day to help sustain blood stock supplies to its hospitals.

The two blood donation sessions are at Wick Assembly Rooms on Wednesday, August 4 at 2.40pm to 4.30pm and 5.30pm to 7.10pm. To book an appointment call 0345 9090 999 (lines operational Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm). You can also email nss.snbtsenquiry@nhs.scot and more information is available at scotblood.co.uk
