Plea for new owner for overlooked Caithness snake
A plea has gone out to find a new owner for an overlooked snake in Caithness in the run-up to Reptile Awareness Day on October 21.
The Scottish SPCA has been caring for Max, a royal python, since February at its Caithness and Sutherland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balmore, near Dounreay.
Christine Urquhart, centre manager for the animal welfare charity, said: “Max would make a great addition to a home but sadly he keeps getting overlooked, as do many reptiles who come into our care.
“Poor Max has been waiting over eight months to find his forever home with a confident owner.
“He is a sensitive soul who can take a while to settle into new surroundings. He is generally well behaved and good to handle, but can still sometimes be a bit jumpy.
“He will need an experienced snake owner as he is not the best at eating and shedding. He has become used to having regular baths during his shedding and is well behaved during these.
“He is around four feet long, and will need the right-sized vivarium and equipment to keep him happy and healthy.
“In light of Reptile Awareness Day, we are hoping to find the perfect home for Max. After spending so long in our centre, he deserves to finally find his happy ever after.”
Anyone who thinks they could give Max a home can apply through the Scottish SPCA website .
