Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is planning to extend Wick Business Park with extra spaces for light industrial and business units.

In an application to Highland Council, HIE proposes to erect three buildings that will house 14 "flexi units" – a mixture of light industrial and business units.

Building one will have 10 units and buildings two and three will have two units each. The boundary of the development site will be realigned which will also require a change of use for the portion of land (plot four) in question.

The units are designed by ThirtySix Architecture and the area of land is located 120m north-east of the existing NHS dental practice.

In the description of the proposal, it is stated that the buildings can "be amalgamated" if required. It further states: "Typical market demand has been for units in the region of 40 to 60sqm (430-645 sq.ft). However, the aspiration is to create a more flexible building solution that can provide a wider range of unit sizes."

The brief is to develop the "historic terrace model" that has been delivered over the last 20 years into a more resilient and flexible product, utilising where possible the Portal Toolkit which was published by Scottish Enterprise and Zero Waste Scotland in 2019.

The units will be "cost effective" in terms of energy usage and maintenance requirements and have a high level of health and wellbeing for the occupants.

The proposal is currently under consideration by Highland Council.
