Wick care home residents enjoy tour of RNLI lifeboat
Residents at a far north care home found their sea legs with a memorable visit to the Wick lifeboat.
Coxswain Allan Lipp showed the guests from Seaview House Care Home around the Royal National Lifeboat Institution premises, along with fellow volunteer Mhairi Ross.
The adventurous pair know all about life at sea and last year embarked on an attempt to row unsupported around Great Britain.
The Seaview residents learned about the work of the RNLI crews and were even able to get some hands-on action on the lifeboat.
Wick’s RNLI station, a vital part of the community, is dedicated to saving lives at sea. Allan and Mhairi guided the residents through the history of the organisation and its modern-day operations. The residents were fascinated by the stories of bravery, the advanced technology used in rescue missions, and the tireless commitment of the volunteers.
Meanwhile, staff and residents at the home have been busy creating their own cookbook which will be sold at the harbour fun day in June, with proceeds going to the RNLI.
Caz McLauchlan has been leading cookery demos, called Cooking with Caz, for residents, and the book will feature a collection of recipes, some dating to 1925.
The book will include everything from savoury meals to sweet treats and is a mix of family traditions and new creations, representing the diverse culinary tastes of both the residents and staff.
Seaview House is run by Barchester Healthcare and offers nursing care, respite and short stays, and dementia care from its Broadhaven Road premises.
