PICTURES: Manhunt continues at Hempriggs area south of Wick with major police investigation
A heavy police presence continues on the outskirts of Wick after a manhunt was launched yesterday afternoon (January 30) when a driver absconded after crashing into a police vehicle.
At least six police cars and vans are currently conducting investigations at and around the Barns of Hempriggs Farm situated a mile south of Wick near the A99 road.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said there were no updates to yesterday’s statement which reads: “A police vehicle being used by officers carrying out routine enquiries was struck by another vehicle on a private road south of Wick shortly after noon on Thursday, 30 January.
“The driver of the other vehicle involved then left the area and enquiries are ongoing to locate him.
“Neither of the officers in the police vehicle were injured.
“A significant police presence remains in the area while these enquiries continue.”
At around 1pm today, officers stationed close to the site of the main investigation said they had travelled up “from the south” but would provide no further details on the operation.
At the private road leading to the Barns of Hempriggs farm, three police vehicles were partially blocking the route to the farm and were seen conversing with a woman. Officers also appeared to be coming out of a small house on the private road.
Two more police vehicles were observed parked up at the farmhouse and officers appeared to be conducting a search of the grounds.
A local man said he had recently seen ‘No Entry’ signs placed along the private road leading to the farm.
At 3.30pm today, the Police Scotland media desk was called but had no further information to add.
