Twenty-one members of the Caithness Vintage Tractor and Machinery Club (CVTMC) recently embarked on an insightful visit to GMG Energy in Strath Halladale.
The group, led by Malcolm Morrison, owner of GMG Energy, along with site manager Malcolm Nicolson and all the team, received a guided tour of the facility, offering a behind-the-scenes look at GMG Energy’s wide-ranging operations.
GMG Energy is a prominent provider of timber products and renewable energy solutions, delivering services throughout the north Highlands.
The company specialises in the manufacturing of timber products for agricultural businesses, builders, and individual consumers. Their offerings also include bark for garden centres, sawdust for livestock, and dried woodchip for local businesses and councils.
In addition to its production capabilities, GMG Energy makes door-to-door deliveries to customers across the region, ensuring the community has access to essential materials.
During the visit, club members were shown various stages of the company’s sustainable production process, learning how GMG Energy minimises waste while supporting the local economy. Following the tour, members enjoyed a hog roast roll and drinks.
Malcolm Morrison, director of GMG Energy, said: “It was a real pleasure to host the Caithness Vintage Tractor and Machinery Club and show them what we do here at GMG Energy.
“Our business is all about the Highlands and working closely with the local community. We take pride in our sustainable practices and our role in helping local businesses and individuals meet their needs while caring for the environment.”
Liz Hewitson, secretary and treasurer of the CVTMC, praised Malcolm Morrison and the effort put into the afternoon. She said: “Our members had a fantastic afternoon and found the tour very interesting, especially the younger members seeing first-hand how fence posts are made, for example.
“We greatly appreciated Malcolm’s hospitality and the time he and his team took to explain GMG Energy’s operations. We wish GMG Energy all the best and look forward to seeing how their efforts continue to benefit the local community.”
The CVTMC continues to celebrate and preserve agricultural heritage, and its visit to GMG Energy highlighted the vital connection between past traditions and future-forward, sustainable practices.
Committed to sustainability, GMG Energy planted approximately 20,000 trees in 2021 to replace the timber it uses, reinforcing its dedication to environmental stewardship. By sourcing timber products locally, businesses in the north Highlands and surrounding islands are able to significantly reduce their carbon footprint.
