Thousands turned out on Saturday to mark the return of the County Show for the first time since the start of the pandemic, with officials from Caithness Agricultural Society suggesting that the event could have been a record-breaker.
"The hard work has really paid off and we couldn't ask for better," president John Murray declared as he surveyed the busy show field at Thurso East.
Thurso and Northwest councillor Matthew Reiss said at the event: "I'm here just as a member of the public and it's been incredibly uplifting to speak to people and see that they're delighted to get out after Covid and meet socially and renew friendships.
"It's good that the weather has been kind as well. I've been speaking to people and getting their views on future business as well as ladies in the Women's Institute - I think there are now 13 institutes in the county which is indicative of the community spirit which is very much alive and kicking. It's a precious thing which needs to be looked after and encouraged by all the public bodies including the council."
